Suckling 93 Points
I remember tasting a 1996 pinot noir with winemaker Scott Schull at his kitchen table, more than 20 years ago – he had the afternoon off from his job in the Silicone Forest, as I recall. His house is ensconced in a beautiful wooded area, and the wine was named after the hawks and other raptors that populate the area. The label was a bit bigger than the bottle, and was affixed a bit awkwardly (you should have seen Oregon wine labels in the ‘70s . . .). But the wine was pure and tasty, and we proceeded to conduct some wine business.
Now Raptor Ridge has a full size winery and tasting room, still in a beautiful setting, and a full lineup of well-made wines.
From Suckling: "Aromatic and attractive with black cherries, blackberries and some lavender. Medium to full body with firm tannins and a long, vivid finish. Drink or hold."
