Okay, folks, this is THE wine you want to try if you are an Oregon fan of the first order. These are the original vines, just 10 rows remaining, planted in 1968, that helped start the whole Willamette Valley wine industry. They are infected by phylloxera, but they are still producing small amounts of fruit and this wine is one of a kind. It has a savauge character that is unlike anything else I've had from Oregon, tremendous complexity, and while fascinating now, it will continue to evolve for many years. The vine age definitely has everything to do with it. You owe it to yourself to try a bottle of this.
From Vinous: “Deep, brightly hued magenta. Expansive, spice-accented aromas of ripe red fruit, passionfruit (yes), incense and potpourri, along with smoky mineral and earth nuances. Conveys a suave blend of depth and energy, offering sweet finely detailed Chambord, cherry cola, mulberry, candied lavender and baking spice flavors that come off weightless despite their intensity. Closes extremely long and juicy, with resonating florality and just a trace of silky tannins. – Josh Raynolds”
